I welcome comments but do screen them. I publish those that meet the following criteria:
1. They are well-written. I attempt to craft my posts with some care and expect others to do the same.
2. They are respectful. I have no patience with ranting or ad hominem attacks.
3. They are well-reasoned. I expect comments, particularly arguments, to be founded on logic and knowledge.
4. The writer identifies himself. I cannot respect hiding behind anonymity.
I apply the above loosely. If I feel a comment is sufficiently deserving, I may publish it even though it violates one or more of the criteria.
I appreciate comments but don’t usually reply. Rather like the letters-to-the-editor sections in a newspaper, I have my say, the reader has his say, and we’re done. However, if a comment particularly piques my interest, is in serious error, or simply demands a rebuttal, I may allow myself a response.
